COURSE OVERVIEW

In December 2015 the Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIR) came into effect. Under these regulations anyone who serves food must provide information to customers who must avoid certain ingredients because of an allergy.

In today’s news not a day goes by without some sort of reference to healthy eating or health issues relating to poor diet or excessive eating or drinking. This seems to be incredible when everywhere you look there are adverts for healthy food and diets, and shops overflowing with fruit and vegetables. However it is a problem many people have grown up with poor eating habits or have learnt to satisfy their emotions with food rather than just using food to enable growth, development and a healthy life style. As early year providers its your responsibility to get children off to a good start in life your input while they are young could be the difference between a long life , health and success or a life filled with illness and poor development.

As part of the National Nursery Nutrition in Early Years course your will gain an understanding of:

  • Introduction to Nutrition, important terms and definitions, the business benefits of a well-managed and nutritionally balanced menu
  • What a healthy diet contains and providing a balanced diet
  • Supporting staff and parents to be healthier
  • Allergies and intolerances
  • Menu planning including practical guidance on what (and how) to provide; menus for 0-5s and tips for involving parents and carers.
