Safeguarding for Childcare Practitioners (Level 2)

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility — and in an early years setting, the practitioner who knows a child best is usually the first to notice when something is wrong. This Level 2 course gives childcare practitioners the knowledge and confidence to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect, respond well when a child discloses, and record, report and escalate concerns properly, in line with the EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements and Working Together to Safeguard Children — including the strengthened expectations introduced by the September 2025 EYFS reforms.

What you’ll learn

  • Your safeguarding role and the legal framework — the EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements, Working Together to Safeguard Children and the September 2025 EYFS reforms
  • The four categories of abuse — physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect — and their signs in young children
  • Neglect in depth: its physical, emotional, medical and supervisory forms, the trio of vulnerabilities, and why poverty is not neglect
  • How to respond to a disclosure: listening calmly, using open prompts, and never promising secrecy
  • How to record concerns factually, report to your DSL, challenge professionally and use whistleblowing routes when concerns are not acted on
  • Safer working practice: visibility, intimate care safeguards, device and online boundaries, low-level concerns and the allegations process

On successful completion you’ll receive a completion certificate you can use as evidence of continued professional development and for compliance and Ofsted audit. National Nursery Training is an NFAQ-accredited training provider, so your certificate carries recognised accreditation your setting can rely on.
