From 1 September 2025, safer eating became a specific safeguarding and welfare requirement in the revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This Level 2 course gives every practitioner the knowledge to reduce choking risk, prepare and supervise food safely, and support children through safe weaning.
What you’ll learn
- The EYFS ‘safer eating’ duty and the requirement to have regard to the EYFS nutrition guidance
- Recognising common choking hazards and how to prepare, cut and present food safely
- The stages of safe weaning and introducing solid foods
- Supervising mealtimes, including the requirement for a paediatric-first-aid-trained member of staff to be in the room when children are eating
- Gathering and recording allergy and dietary information before a child starts
- How to recognise and respond to a choking incident
On completion learners receive an NFAQ-accredited certificate as evidence for compliance and Ofsted.
