This Toxic Trio safeguarding training helps early years practitioners identify issues — and potential issues — of domestic abuse, mental ill health and substance misuse, the three factors most commonly identified in serious case reviews involving harm to children. Together these are known as the “Toxic Trio”, and recent years have seen an increased number of safeguarding concerns raised in early years settings involving one, or a combination, of them.
For your setting, this is core safeguarding knowledge. All early years and childcare providers have a legal responsibility to take every possible step, as part of standard due diligence, to prevent dangerous and potentially dangerous people from gaining access to the children in their care — and practitioners are uniquely placed to spot Toxic Trio risk factors early in the families they see every day.
