Supporting Children with English as an Additional Language (EAL)

More than one in five children in early years settings speaks English as an additional language. This course helps you value every child’s home language while giving them the support they need to thrive in English too.

What you’ll learn

  • How young children acquire additional languages
  • The silent phase and typical stages of EAL development
  • Valuing home languages and children’s cultural capital
  • Practical strategies for communication and inclusion
  • Working in partnership with families with EAL
  • Distinguishing EAL from speech, language and communication needs

On completion learners receive an NFAQ-accredited certificate as evidence for compliance and Ofsted.
