Why this training matters

The EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements are statutory for every registered early years provider, and Ofsted inspects against them. Since September 2025 the Designated Safeguarding Lead role has been set out in the framework, whole-staff safeguarding training must be refreshed at least every two years, and settings must follow up when a child is absent without explanation. Young children cannot always tell us when something is wrong, so they rely on adults who know the signs and have rehearsed what to say and do.

Which safeguarding course does my DSL need?

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (Level 3) course. It is written for DSLs, deputy DSLs and the managers who appoint them, and the September 2025 EYFS changes expect DSL-level training for the person doing the role.

How often should staff refresh their safeguarding training?

The EYFS now makes explicit that safeguarding training for all staff must be refreshed at least every two years, with regular updates in between through staff meetings, supervision and briefings. The Safeguarding Refresher is built for that two-yearly update.

Are the courses online?

Yes. Every course in this category is online and self-paced, so learners can work through it on any device at a time that suits the rota.

Do learners get a certificate?

Yes. Learners receive a certificate when they pass the end-of-course assessment, and they can resit the assessment as many times as they need.
