Choosing the right special educational needs course
Start with the level of responsibility each person holds for children with SEND, then add courses on the needs you see most often.
Why this training matters
The SEND Code of Practice 2015 is statutory guidance covering birth to 25. It applies to all early years providers, including childminders, and group settings must have a named SENCO. The Code expects the graduated approach of assess, plan, do, review, with parents involved and informed at every stage. The early years are when the gap is smallest and intervention is most powerful, so a practitioner who recognises need early can change the course of a child’s education.
Training your whole team
Every course in this category is included in the Training Portal for £5 per learner per month, so your SENCO and every key person can train together. You can also buy individual places, with group rates from 3 learners.
Frequently asked questions
Which SEN course does our SENCO need?
Special Educational Needs - SENDCO (Level 4) is written for SENCO leadership and assumes practitioner-level SEND knowledge. Special Educational Needs (Level 3) sits a step below it, for the practitioner who knows the child best.
Does a child need a diagnosis before we start SEN support?
No. SEN support starts when a child needs provision that is different from or additional to what you offer every child, and the decision to begin it is the setting’s to make, on your own evidence.
Are the courses online?
Yes. Every course in this category is online and self-paced, so learners can work through it on any device at a time that suits the rota.
Do learners get a certificate?
Yes. Learners receive a certificate when they pass the end-of-course assessment, and they can resit the assessment as many times as they need.
