Description

Speech, language and communication needs are the most common developmental concern in early years settings — and the earlier they are spotted, the more difference you can make. This course builds your confidence to identify children whose communication is off track and support every child’s language, every day.

What you’ll learn

  • How speech, language and communication typically develop from birth
  • Spotting the signs that development is off track, age band by age band
  • Creating a communication-friendly environment across your setting
  • Everyday adult strategies that build language: modelling, expanding and commenting
  • Working with speech and language therapy and making confident referrals
  • Telling SLCN apart from EAL and selective mutism — and what to do when unsure

On completion learners receive an NFAQ-accredited certificate as evidence for compliance and Ofsted.
