Description
Benedict’s Law came into force for schools in England on 1 September 2026. It does not bind nurseries, pre-schools or childminders, but the lessons behind it apply to every early years setting. This course gives your whole team the allergy knowledge the EYFS expects, and the good practice from the DfE’s new allergy safety guidance, adapted for babies and children under five.
What you’ll learn
- ✓ Why Benedict’s Law binds schools, and what does bind your setting: the EYFS, Ofsted, food information law, the Equality Act, UK GDPR and RIDDOR
- ✓ How allergy and anaphylaxis show up in babies and young children who cannot tell you
- ✓ The emergency response: positioning, the child’s own adrenaline device without delay, 999 and “anaphylaxis”, a second dose after 5 minutes
- ✓ Preventing reactions at mealtimes, during weaning, in messy play, cooking and celebrations, and on outings
- ✓ Gathering allergy information before a child starts, care plans, medicines records and sharing health data lawfully
- ✓ Leading allergy safety: a named lead, annual training, practice drills, learning from near misses and notifying Ofsted
Who it’s for
Everyone who works with babies and young children: practitioners, room leaders, apprentices, cooks, bank and agency staff, volunteers, managers and childminders. Module 6 is written for the person who leads allergy safety.
